Cooking - Culinary Torch recommendation

I am looking to purchase a new culinary torch. Any suggestions? The one I have when used even at the lowest flame, the food turns a dark almost black char, not a nice golden color...

I use a Benzomatic from the hardware store.

The canister and the control nozzle are often sold separately. Invest in a nozzle with more precision. They can run from $15-$30. Canister is about $10.

Your charring problem seems to indicate that it might be more of an issue with technique than equipment. Since we can't actually see you using your torch, it's hard to know what could be going awry.

Is the flame too close to the food? The hottest part of the flame is the tip of the inner blue cone. So you would want to have the tip of the flame 1-2 centimeters away. You want the flame to hover around the food, not be directly on it. Nor should the flame be stationary. I usually do gentle sweeping or circular motions with a torch for even coverage. I don't focus in one spot for more than a few seconds. YouTube has some good videos. Check those out before you get a new torch.

It won’t burn food if you move the flame around. Look on you tube for a visual.
