Dough went in Fridge before proofing!

I put my dough in the fridge overnight, forgetting to let it rest at room temperature for 2 hours first? How do I work with it and is it still okay to use? I rested for about 20 hours.

I've made this recipe countless times and it's pretty resilient.
Take it out of the fridge when you'll be around for several hours and can monitor it.
First let it come to room temperature.
Then check for usual signs of active yeast - bubbles, resistance to touch, smell.
If it looks good, let it proof/rise another hour or two,
then proceed with whatever you want to make.
Contra indications - if you get no positive signs of yeast activity after it comes to room temp and/or after you let it rise another hour or two, it's probably not a good dough...but not because you put it in the fridge. More likely, the yeast was old or dead.
Good luck and let us know how it comes out.

Thank you so much for the reply!!! This is so reassuring. I'm planning on making sandwich bread tonight so I will do as you recommended a couple hours before. I'll let you know how it comes out!

Ralig05 - the only extra step I'd recommend is - if you're planning to serve at a meal tonight - to have another starch in your culinary back pocket in case the bread doesn't work out.

Nancy, the dough proofed perfectly in the fridge. I did as you recommended which was to make sure it looked like it was rising well and brought it to room temp about 4 hours before using it. It was perfect. I might even say better than the previous doughs I've made before!! Thank you so much!
