Yes. I routinely leave butter at room temp. However, during the summer months when it is very hot were I live, I put in the fridge during the day mainly because it just becomes too soft to be palatable. And when I'm going to be baking something that requires room temp butter, or making buttercream, I always leave it out overnight. Actually, I hide it in the microwave so none of the 4-legged creatures can get to it. Learned that the hard way.
