i am following a recipe for chicken tikka which specifies using 3tblsp of garam masala +1 tblesp of cumin is this ethis toomuch

it is a standard 4 person serving with 500 gr. diced chicken

With the other spices and ginger and garlic, I'd add 1 tablespoon of garam masala, max. (I'd probably use 2 teaspoons, frankly.) It's a strong blend. ;o)

Yes, I think it's too much.
Good recipes I know use fresh ginger and garlic, and somewhere between 2 abd 4 tablespoons total dry spices for 2 lbs (about 900g) chicken.
I would start by using total 1 to 2 tbsp dry spices for your 500g chicken.
Taste as you go, and add more near the end if you feel they are needed.
Always easier to add more flavoring, than fix a dish with too much.

the recipe im following does use fresh garlic and ginger. The total dry spices are 4 tbsp (not 3 as i originaly said) garam masala +1tblsp paprika+ 2tsp english mustard powder. Also 200gr tom puree and 350ml single cream. Apart from chopped spring onions and chicken thats more or less all the ingredients
