Can this cake be 'dressed up' for a holiday dessert?

After reading the reviews it sounds like many enjoy this cake as a breakfast or snack. I'm looking for something easy to serve as christmas dessert, perhaps with poached pears and creme anglaise. Would this cake do the trick?

The recipe notes suggest fruit compote. I would use my favorite fruit.

Or some dusted confectioner sugar.
Or pomegranate arils scattered on top.
