Good question. It's Eastern Europe, but there is no tag in the list to pick. I discussed it with the Food52 technical support few times and then gave up. thank you for paying attention to that.
@Madona - belated idea. As there’s no “Eastern Europe” tag, you could highlight the cuisine by editing/revising to include that description in the recipe title or headnote. And maybe remove the “Middle Eastern” description from the tag list, if you agree it’s misleading.
The recipe author decides on tags. And Georgian is a cuisine hard to label. By location, Caucuses or Central Asia. By association, some Eastern Europe influences. By trade, Silk Road (which takes us all the way to China). By proximity, Turkey - which is partly middle eastern cuisine. What would you use as a tag if you were writing a recipe from this region?
European. Look at any pictures of Georgian presidents, and they have the EU flag behind them showing that they want to join. I suppose Georgians can differ in opinion, but my Georgian friend calls himself Eastern European. Culturally, Georgians are European, not Islamic, Hindu, or Chinese.
thanks Nancy, for the helpful comment. Culturally, my Georgian-Jewish friend considers Georgia to have Persian influence and background is well, and as you say, it is hard to quantify. As you imply, there is not a simple answer here.
Please note an article that is currently on the front page of CNN that says about yesterday: "thousands of demonstrators gathering outside Tbilisi’s parliament building on Tuesday night, waving not just the Georgian flag but also that of the European Union."
