Just wanted to add to this thread with an article on how long wines can last when preserved in the fridge -- a sturdy red can last up to a few weeks, white wine up to 5 days. There are lots of variables though: https://food52.com/drinks/wine/25671-how-long-does-wine-last-opened

This is a case where going to a nice wine shop and talking to the store staff might be helpful. They likely have experience with most of the products (both old and new) on the market and will be able to provide better guidance concerning your budget.

After all, it is in their interest for you to enjoy the wine and keep coming back to buy more bottles and drink more wine.

I've been using a Vacuvin (silicone plug + vacuum pump) for the past twenty years. It will extend the life of an unfinished bottle of wine by a day or two. It is best to put the bottle in the refrigerator, that does help slow down degradation.

There are newer systems like Coravin which started out as a high-end restaurant wine dispensing system using an inert gas to displace air. Coravin now markets a range of consumer-facing products. You'll have to check local pricing and decide if you want to spend the money.

The Vacuvin is relatively inexpensive and you can just toss it in a drawer since it doesn't take up much space.

If you regularly consume very expensive bottles of wine, the Coravin might be the better way to go.

Best of luck.

Coloque un sello de vacío en la botella original o vierta el vino sobrante en un frasco para que esté expuesto a la menor cantidad de oxígeno. Llevar a la nevera unos días.

Nancy, I'm impressed! For anyone who needs a translation, the question was: How do you keep your bottles of wine, when you don't finish them? And Nancy's answer is: Put a vacuum seal on the original bottle or pour the leftover wine into a jar so it is exposed to the least amount of oxygen. Keep in the fridge for a few days. (I do this too--although sometimes I have no room in the fridge and leave it sealed on the counter, and it definitely does not last as long!)
