The recipe calls for 12 ounces dark chocolate, chopped.

Go to the baking supplies aisle and pick out a bar. Ghirardelli is okay as is Callebaut. Theo 85% chocolate bar is well respected, too. Last, Green & Black's organic dark chocolate will not let your baked goods down.

Get what you enjoy eating. I would go with semi-sweet. Avoid milk chocolate.
