Cornflour as gluten free alternative?

I am curious why no one has suggested cornflour as a gluten free alternative to flour- is there a reason not to that I should be aware of? I am preparing this for dinner tomorrow night and will probably do what one of the other answers suggest which is cube a small potato up and add it to cook with the gravy in order to thicken it rather than risk the undiscussed corn flour but I am still curious if someone can shed light on this.

Corn flour, like oat, rice, tapioca, coconut, potato flours, etc… are considered “gluten-free” only if processed and packaged in a certified gluten-free facility because of cross contamination from flours containing gluten.
If the corn flour is processed in a facility that also processes flours containing gluten, the corn flour is “gluten friendly.”
