I'm looking at making a fish chowder in the slow cooker - any tips to ensure I don't ruin it?

I would make the recipe without the fish in the slow cooker, then add the seafood at the end and let it just cook through. if you add the fish and cook it slow allay, you won't have any pieces of fish left I the stew and it may get an overpowering fish flavor.
