I actually had that same paperback version. The best thing that James beard liked was his summer tomato and mayonaisse sandwich. It was good but compared to what"s cooking now, quite dated. That being said, I loved my copy anyway, afterall it was James Beard.
Just for the (misguided) record, I inherited my mother's paperback copy. Through years of use by her, it gradually descended to needing to be bound together with a rubber band. A wide one. By the time it arrived in my lap, even the rubber band had disintegrated, and the book was contained in a 5x7 manilla envelope. I feel like I should offer it to the Smithsonian.
