Are there any significant differences between plain white sliced bread and plain brown sliced bread,  if so what are they?

Depends on the type of brown bread.  Some are made with whole wheat or pumpernickel flour, while most white breads are made with bleached, processed white flour.  Some brown breads are not whole wheat though.
