I found a better solution for my Mac. I hit the green + in the upper left corner, and the screen size increased to accommodate the larger format of the site. Using the command minus to make the site smaller made the print so small that it gave me headaches trying to read it. The larger size is much, much better.
Ah! So the problem wasn't that you have a small monitor -- it's that your web browser wasn't taking full advantage of the amount of space you have on the screen. So glad this is cleared up for you and for all the others out there who have a side-to-side scrolling issue, give it a try -- make your browser window as wide as it can be.
FruitOfTheSea, I never mentioned Mac OR Windows... Food52 is for people who love to cook -- Mac, Windows, Linux, or Corona Typewriter. I was simply implying -- possibly too tongue in cheek (it's been a long day) -- that there is a very small minority of people out there with either very small monitors or with their monitors set in a way that makes them seem very small.
To be more technical and specific, if your monitor is set 1024x768 (or 1024 by anything else) then for no you'll have to scroll side to side to see the whole page. Again, this is something we intend to rectify soon.
Oww, my toes. So is the site only for people with Macs now? Because I have a normal sized monitor and a normal computer, and the ctrl button with 0 does not work to adjust the screen. I look at Food52 EVERYDAY!! I really would like to continue reading it!
For those who find the page is too wide to fit your screen, I'm guessing that you're among the roughly 8.9% of our users who are using, shall we say... "classic" computers. :-) Which is a polite way of saying you have a really small monitor!
Seriously though, we struggled with how best to handle this small but valuable minority. We didn't want to have to limit the size of the gorgeous food photos for everyone else for the sake of fewer than 9% but we also didn't want to ruin your experience.
While we do have an elegant solution in the works, unfortunately we ran out of time and for the next several weeks, we're going to have to ask that you use the various resizing tips above or scroll side to side a bit until we get the right solution in place.
Thanks for your patience and as always, don't hesitate to provide feedback.
The Reply button on the foodpickle doesn't seem to be working. Thank you sdebrango for resizing info for a mac. It worked perfectly, though now the type is really tiny.
If you are on a pc, you can try holding down the control button and hitting the number 0. This will take it to the regular/default size. If you have a mouse, you can can also try holding the control button and scrolling the mouse wheel up and down which will also adjust the screen size.
Hi all! We hear you and are working on it ... sit tight! In the meantime, though, if you are on a Mac, trying hitting Command and a minus sign to adjust the size of the window.
Me too. There's no focal point to the page, just a lot of stuff everywhere, and the width issue makes it feel cluttered. And I'm having a lot of trouble reading the new font colors. That pale green is almost impossible to even see.
