I've read about black walnuts but never had an opportunity to cook with them. Any ideas/experience/favorite recipes?
There's a really amazing black walnut ice cream recipe in the new cookbook by Jeni Britton Bauer (Jeni's Splendid Ice Creams at Home). I also remember my grandmother making a fabulous black walnut cake with a cream cheese frosting. To replicate this, I recommend making the Coconut Pecan Cake in the 2006 edition of the Joy of Cooking and simply replacing the pecans and coconut with chopped black walnuts.

I have a bumper crop of black walnuts. I just loaded a recipe for maple black walnut fudge. I'll be curious if anyone else has ideas, as these are a rather unusual ingredient.
