Author Notes

This recipe is from an old tattered 5 Roses Cookbook that was my mom's (she passed away in 1983). She baked them a few times a year but the best time for them was Christmas. I used to make them all the time but with peoples tastes changing from sweet to savory I haven't made them the last few Christmas's.

Joyce, thanks for posting this.
Anything from that old Five Roses book is worth making. I wish I still had my copy. If you still have your mother's copy of the book, do try the apple pie filling. It was the best.
