▎Falafel Recipe
▎Ingredients for 4 servings:
• Chickpeas: 250 grams (2.5 cups)
• Onion: 1 medium
• Garlic: 2 cloves
• Fresh cilantro: 1/2 cup (optional)
• Red pepper powder: 1 teaspoon
• Salt: to taste
• Baking powder: 1 teaspoon
• Oil for frying: as needed
▎Instructions:
1. Preparing the Chickpeas:
• Soak the chickpeas in water overnight. Then drain and set aside.
2. Mixing the Ingredients:
• In a blender or food processor, combine the soaked chickpeas, chopped onion, garlic, cilantro (if using), red pepper powder, salt, and baking powder. Blend until you achieve a smooth and uniform mixture. If the mixture is too soft, you can add a little flour.
3. Resting the Mixture:
• Place the mixture in a bowl and let it rest in the refrigerator for 30 minutes.
4. Shaping the Falafel:
• After resting, use your hands or a falafel scoop to form balls about the size of a walnut.
5. Frying the Falafel:
• Heat oil in a deep pan. Once the oil is hot, gently place the falafel balls in the oil and fry each side for about 3-4 minutes until golden and crispy.
6. Serving the Falafel:
• Place the fried falafel on paper towels to absorb excess oil. You can serve them with bread, salad, tahini sauce, or yogurt sauce.
