It’s hard to believe Deep Run Roots is Vivian Howard’s first cookbook. We’ve been fans of the North Carolina-based chef-owner since she first opened her Kinston restaurant, Chef and The Farmer—she also charmed her way into our hearts with her Peabody-award-winning PBS series A Chef’s Life). Owning her book is like having her in the kitchen with us via more than 200 recipes and stories (think Blueberry BBQ Chicken, Creamed Collard-Stuffed Potatoes, and Peaches and Cream Cake).
