Editors' Picks -- Week 41

by:
April  2, 2010

Any food52 member is welcome to help us test our Editors' Pick candidates, so go call dibs on the recipe you'd like to test in the comments section below! Don't forget to email us your notes (about 100 words) to [email protected] by next Tuesday at 5pm.

We'll collect your comments, decide the official list of Editors' Picks and publish your evaluation in the headnote if the recipe is selected as an Editors' Pick (with credit, of course!). And even if the recipe you test isn't chosen as an Editors' Pick, please feel free to leave your testing notes in the recipe's comments section. Constructive criticism is always encouraged!

  • 1. A weekend stay on a small-scale working family farm with Feather Down Farm Days
  • 2. A snazzy food52 tote from L.L. Bean
  • 3. Three selections from Rick's Picks' line of delicious pickled goods

THis is my first "test" of Editor Picks...after I write my little piece do I just email it to editors@food52?

Food52 April 6, 2010
Yes, please do!

monkeymom April 3, 2010
I'm sorry I'm opting out this week...I need to recover from copious sugar cookie testing. But I'll be ready and willing next week.

TheWimpyVegetarian April 3, 2010
I would offer to take on another one, but one lamb dish is likely going to be enough for me. I can't eat nuts, so can't help on the macaroon/macaron contest. Sorry!

MrsWheelbarrow April 2, 2010
All day Lamb. I'll make that, too. (Remembered a boned leg of lamb in the freezer! Yippee!)

WinnieAb April 2, 2010
I'm so sorry but I really dislike lamb. I'm sure these are all great as far as lamb goes, but just the same, I'd prefer to test the candied peanut butter macarons in addition to the macarons I already chose...

dymnyno April 2, 2010
I will take the Burnt Fingers and Favas if it is still available...I just bought a rack of local (Sonoma) lamb, already frenched and ready for a wood charcoal grill.

lastnightsdinner April 2, 2010
no favas here yet or I would have jumped on that one - enjoy!

pierino April 3, 2010
Thanks. If you do decide to try the barrel stave add on I would recommend soaking it first. Favas are brilliant right now.

dymnyno April 3, 2010
I just bought 2 lbs of beautiful favas. The barrel staves are already "soaked" from being stacked out in the rain(1 inch, yesterday). I am hoping that the weather cooperates with me so I don't get soaked grilling the lamb!

solmstea April 2, 2010
I'll try the cardamom orange macaroons and/or the Almond Halvah macarons...

Food52 April 2, 2010
We'll put you down for the Almond Halvah Macaroons. Thank you! And if you do make the Cardamom Orange Macaroons, please feel free to leave your notes in the recipe's comment section.

Amber O. April 2, 2010
Because of the special holiday weekend/time frame these recipes need to be tested within, it might be difficult to find the time to prepare the possible picks. I'd be willing to test another macaroon, the Orange Cardamon Macaroons, if they don't get chosen in time, along with my already chosen Almond Pistachio Macaroons. I'm sure they won't go to waste! Maybe too soon to post but just an offer! ;o)

Food52 April 2, 2010
Thanks for the nice offer, Amber. We'll give people till the end of the day and, if no one else claims these macaroons, we'd be glad to have the help!

MrsWheelbarrow April 2, 2010
anything else need testing? i've got a quiet weekend ahead.

Food52 April 2, 2010
Amber, we'd love for you to test the Orange Cardamom Macaroons if you're still interested.

MrsWheelbarrow, thanks so much for the offer! We'll take you up on it.

Here are the remaining unclaimed EPs: Burnt Fingers & Fresh Favas, All Day Lamb, Lemony Braised Lamb Shanks & Spring Root Vegetable Stew, Lemon Lamb Shanks with Baby Artichokes, Sauteed Lambs Liver, Vanilla Bean Macaron with Passion Fruit Buttercream, and Candied Peanut Butter Macarons. If anyone else would like to take on a second recipe, go for it!

MrsWheelbarrow April 2, 2010
I'll see what I can find at the farmer's market, and then sign up - rib chops? shanks? liver? (I'm hoping for liver.)

Amber O. April 2, 2010
No problem with the two recipes!

cheese1227 April 3, 2010
I can test one more recipe on Monday evening (along with the lamb I am testing this weekend) if there are more recipes that must be tested. Obviously, I can't do the all day lamb and finding lambs liver on short notice might not work either. But I think I can manage the others, just let me know.

Food52 April 4, 2010
cheese1227, if you still have time tomorrow and would like to test either the Lemon Lamb Shanks with Baby Artichokes or the Lemony Braised Lamb Shanks and Spring Root Vegetable Stew with Fresh Dill, they're both still available.

cheese1227 April 4, 2010
I can test Lemon Lamb Shanks with Baby Artichokes (not because the other one doesn't look great, but this one looks more doable in an evening) providing that I can get all of the ingredients at the Whole Foods after school tommorrow. I will let you know if that is not possible. I don't forsee it being an issue, but I wanted to let you know that there may be a chance that I can't test it.

WinnieAb April 1, 2010
I'll take the Chocolate Macarons with Matcha Cream, please!

cheese1227 April 1, 2010
I'll take the Caramelized Spicy Leg of Lamb with Mint Yogurt

Lizthechef April 1, 2010
whoops - chef is a "she" - hope she gets back to me...

TheWimpyVegetarian April 1, 2010
I would love to try My Home-Style Lamb Shawarma. I'm always drawn to spicy foods that are balanced with other flavors.

drbabs April 1, 2010
I'll make the chocolate dipped almond hazelnut macaroons.

MrsWheelbarrow April 1, 2010
I'll test the Mexican Chocolate Macarons with chili cream!

annalea April 1, 2010
I'll test Kofta Pocket with Tzatziki Sauce for certain. Maybe one of the cookies too depending on time.

Food52 April 1, 2010
It looks like Culinista Annouchka has already claimed the Kofta Pockets (for now we're sticking with one official tester per recipe). If you do make them on your own, please feel free to post your notes in the recipe's comments section. Is there another recipe you'd like to test?

aargersi April 1, 2010
I would like to test the dark mocha lamb please!!!!

Lizthechef April 1, 2010
I will try the Lemon-Oregano Leg of Lamb. Is it OK if I ask the chef how he infused his olive oil? I would like to duplicate that as well...Love those Meyer lemons.

Food52 April 1, 2010
Of course -- please do!

testkitchenette April 1, 2010
I'll take the Ginger Amaretti please!

Amber O. April 1, 2010
I'll make almond pistachio macaroons, por favor!

clbeth April 1, 2010
I'll take New Mother's Magic Elixir (Lamb Stew)!
