Hotline Office Hours with Louisa Shafia

June 19, 2013

All week, Louisa Shafia has been sharing recipes from her new book, The New Persian Kitchen. She's talked about the virtues of pomegranate molasses, and given us a fragrant, exotic side for our weeknight roast chicken. But now, we want you to be able to ask her your own questions -- because coming together over food is what Food52 is all about.

Sweet Rice with Carrots and Nuts Lamb Kebabs

Today from 1 PM to 2 PM, Louisa will be answering your questions on the Hotline -- about Persian food, cooking, writing, or anything else you'd like to throw her way. So get your questions ready, and get yourself to the Hotline!

Although I've enjoyed eating Persian food for many years, I'm a novice when it comes to cooking it. I live in a somewhat rural area and was wondering if you had any resource suggestions for those ingredients (like barberries and pomegranate molasses) that are a little more unusual? Any help in that area would be much appreciated!

Hey Elizabeth! Some great online sources for Persian ingredients are: kalamala.com and sadaf.com. Also, the wonderful Penzey's carries some good quality Persian seasonings, like sumac and saffron.
