I'm guessing canned, diced tomatoes, which would mean you can use whole canned tomatoes and chop them. That would be my preference. San marzanos are great.

A word on "San Marzanos". The imported san marzanos from Campania are superb but be aware that there is a domestic label that uses "San Marzano" as a brand name. They actually come from Arizona.
