pierino is a trusted source on General Cooking and Tough Love.
The essential elements are pitted olives (I like to use mixture of green and black, like maybe cerignola and nicoise), capers, good quality anchovy filets, and olive oil. Sometimes I had tuna. It's technically not "tapenade" without the capers. It's name derives from the provencale word for "caper." And of course be sure to use caper buds and not caper berries.
That should be "add" tuna.
