On the hunt for a simple but effective olive oil dispenser/can. The type with a long spout. Any ideas? Preferably copper or stainless steel.

When you wash a bottle to fill with oil, leave it to dry completely. Not only will water in your oil sputter if you use it in cooking, water can also introduce contamination to the oil. I apply that caution to any container that I am refilling.

If you do an image search for olio + olive + acciaio online and scroll, there a bunch of images that sound like what you're looking for (e.g. http://www.olioroi.com/it/store/oliere/oliera-in-acciaio-47).

My friends, Bonnie Storm and Nina Talcott make an olive oil called Grove 45 sold at Dean and Delucca and their metal olive oil bottle is gorgeous enough to pay the price for the oil and continue to use the bottle.(their olive oil is delicious and from the Napa Valleuy).

I have a bottle (glass, not metal) of Talcott extra virgin, 2012 and it is very good stuff.

I love my TableCraft oil dispenser. You can often find them in a TJMaxx or a Marshall's, as well as kitchen supply stores. http://www.tablecraft.com/storefrontB2CWEB/browse.do?action=browse&ctg_id=652&root=652&dispatch=salad_categories

I use a chianti bottle (the one with the wicker basket around it) and a bar spout.

Personally I don't think metal is the best storage container for olive oil. It might look pretty on your table but it detracts from the flavor. I do seasonal work as an olive oil "sommelier". A general rule is that a new oil will last about a year from the time its bottle is opened. Don't refrigerate! A glass bottle kept in a dark place in your pantry, out of sunlight is best.

just curious, what are you using it for that it needs a long spout? i buy 3L cans of olive oil and refill a washed glass bottle that originally held olive oil (so it has the removable plastic spout at the mouth).

It's not fancy and not metal. But the simple 99 cent squeeze bottles (like a dinner would use for mustard or ketchup; except in white)from wal-mart or dollar store. Those work well for me..because I use Olive Oil so much it doesn't stand a chance of going rancid. The big metal container to refill it goes under the cabinate. They rarely go a month or two before I refill.
