pressure cooker

Every time I use my pressure cooker I have to tighten the screws on the pot and lid handles or it is unable to build pressure. Is this normal or do I have a dud? The manual gives no indication that this needs to be done. It's a Josef Strauss Platinum JS-PC-6 if that helps.
