You can cook braising steak in a pan on the stove top as well as in the oven. It needs long, slow cooking. Do you have a slow cooker?
Seal it in a plastic bag and soak it in cold water and it will thaw quickly, depending on the size. Change the water if it turns icy, back to just cool water.
Hint: You probably already have a few in yours, too.
