I always store them in the crisper drawer in the refrigerator and always in a plastic bag. Without the plastic they begin to dry out and go limp within a couple of days.

I do the same as @droplet. I once read that cucumbers need to be stored at room temperature. I tried to do this several times, each time the cukes spoiled within a matter of 2-3 days. What a waste, so now they stay in the fridge.
