What can I substitute for the date in this recipe? I don't really love the idea of buying a single date for a recipe-- and I don't much like them...

...on their own, anyway, so I don't know how much I'll love it in the sauce

You can use any sweetener. Brown sugar, maple syrup or my current favorite, palm sugar. Dates are sugar bombs. Honey would be fine too.

Molasses (pomegranate molasses would be nice, if possible) or good maple syrup. Or brown sugar. I would start with 1/2 Tablespoon and adjust to taste.
