This is my favorite pound cake and it's perhaps the easiest one that I've ever made:
Just omit the almonds and substitute lemon zest or lemon oil (food grade) for the vanilla. This even works with all purpose flour (plain flour). It makes a huge cake (it's sized for a 10-cup bundt pan).

Sorry, it's should be 12 cup. Yeah, it's one big cake. I've halved the recipe and it works just fine. No major adjustment to the baking time.

I have a recipe on my profile for "quatre quart", which is a French pound cake. Its quite versatile. I'd add the zest of a lemon into the batter and then put a simple glaze on top with the juice. A cup of confectioners' sugar and a few tablespoons of the juice should do.
