Is it safe to sear a brisket the night before putting it in the crockpot?

I was planning on searing it the night before, putting the whole thing in the base of the crockpot and refrigerating it overnight. It will have at least 10 hours on low the next day, so plenty of time to cook.

I wouldn't hesitate. The brisket will cool back down quickly. You may, however, want to cool it down and then put it in the ceramic base. Those inserts hang onto heat very well.
