Pumpkin Substitute. I am allergic to pumpkin. Can I sub sweet potatoes (canned or fresh) for pumpkin in a recipe?

FWIW, you could also sub butternut squash for pumpkin. Of course fresh is the only option if you do, but that's not a bad thing.

That should work just fine. If you go with canned sweets, be sure to get water packed. The ones in syrup are awfully sweet, and even if you want them sweet in the end, I'd recommend sweetening them yourself.
