How often do you serve the dish to your friends? If too often, then yes. However... My friend Giovanni makes his heavenly lasagna for Thanksgiving, every year. Once a year. Year after year, for over a decade. There is nothing I look forward to more than this dish.
This is a nice story
And it highlights the difference between simple or lazy repetition (where you or your guests may fear you've fallen into a rut) and ritual, where you have intentional repetition, expectation and fulfillment.
Ask your guests what they'd enjoy. There is a friend who always asks me to make pot roast. I've made other dishes but pot roast is their favorite. If it makes them happy, why not?
I agree with this. For all you know they may be hoping you will make that great Osso Bucco recipe they have only had at your house. If someone cooked a very special recipe for me whenever I dined with them I would feel honored. Though not a bad idea to make sure they really do like it and I think offering them a choice is a perfect way to go.
First i have a hard time imagining coming back to the same recipe that many times, but that is my preference, so yes, I say revisiting it again is very boring.
Thank you. The comments and suggestions have been helpful to reduce my craving for this particular osso buco so I will not have to impose it upon others...for now. :-)
Agreed. Change things up a bit. How about this: https://food52.com/recipes/19878-nach-waxman-s-brisket-of-beef
A bit time consuming but the result is pretty tasty and impressive
