I'm ready to place a hen in the oven to bake. Do I need to place it on the pan rack or just the pan?

I roast mine (spatcocked) on a metal cooling rack with a rimmed baking sheet underneath. That way the heat surrounds it, it cooks evenly and the skin is crisp.
