German Chocolate Cake- Nut Free

I want to make a German Chocolate Cake without nuts. How would you make frosting without nuts- increase coconut or just leave nuts out?

I’ve never made a German chocolate cake without nuts before. But the pastry chef I work for substitutes nuts for chopped pepitas & sunflower seeds in a lot of her recipes.

semisweet chocolate chips instead of nuts, stirred in after frosting has cooled?

I would just increase the coconut...there needs to be matter to keep the consistency. I would use unsweetened coconut though since sweetened would be too overwhelming in that quantity.
