Hi there Noreen, we've not heard of this happening with any other customers, I'm sorry to say. I'm a bit hesitant to say whether or not this is to be expected for the product before conferring with the maker. I'm going to reach out to Zwilling J.A. Henckels on this and update you just as soon as I hear back.

Thank you Rebecca. I purchased the whole non-stick set and they all make the popping sound. Thought this is normal, but I've been reading online. Some of them say that it's a manufacturer's defect and could potentially explode on you. Please let me know as you hear back from Zwilling.
