Kim Boyce's granola bars (from Good to the Grain)

We loved these but found them too sweet. They are sweetened with a syrup made from boiling together 1/2 c honey, 1/4 c dark brown sugar, 1 tbsp unsulphured molasses. I'm wondering how I can reduce sweetness without impacting texture and stick-togetherness. Can I cut out the sugar? Any other ideas? Thanks!

It has been several years since I made them, but if I remember correctly, they were pretty sticky so I would have no issue trying to reduce the sugar a bit.
