I am making a lemon pound cake w/ a syrup drizzle. Joy of Cooking says to "store for 24 hours before serving." Impatient, I know, but why the wait?

Also, pound cakes always taste better the next day, and the next, whether or not drizzled with syrup. ;o)

Pound cake is a rather dense cake. The wait will allow the liquid syrup to be absorbed and distribute evenly.
