A question about a recipe: Berries-and-Cream Mini Layer Cakes

I have a question about the recipe "Berries-and-Cream Mini Layer Cakes" from Erin McDowell. Why does the introduction to there Berries and Cream Mini Layer Cakes say it uses whipped cream as the fat? Looking at the Directions, it doesn't say to whip the cream. It just says to gradually drizzle in the cream.
