A question about a recipe: Shaheen Peerbhai & Jennie Levitt's Cold-Oven Roast Chicken

I am looking for a tasty recipe for roast chicken that won’t create a mess in my oven. What can you advise me regarding this recipe?
If the chicken (whole or thighs) is cooked in a 5.5 quart enameled dutch oven (pot height of 4.75 inches without the lid) is there a risk of splatter when the lid is taken off for the final 15 or so minutes of cooking? Thanks!
