Here's an article which reviews and recommends ten best party planning apps...some you already know as general invitation or meeting planning sites, which can be adapted.
Have used and liked (event planning apps) evite, eventbrite & evernote. Three at the end of their list are more focussed on parties.
For dinner parties, I tend to favor using existing software (spreadsheet, database) which I own, know, and can customize.
