Suze is a French bitter apertif, made from the roots of a gentian plant. I believe you can buy it from some of the bigger liquor stores in large cities. Personally I don't care for it, and think it's an acquired taste. I imagine it started life as one of those things you drank because it was sort of medicinal thing, not because it tasted good. Bitter doesn't begin to cover the taste- which is sort of nasty dandelion herbal grass juice. But if you like bitter apertifs, you might like it. I'd try it at a fancy bar first, if you can find it- and decide if you want to invest in a bottle of it.
