I ĺike the capers idea, but still would miss the brightness of the lemon.
OTOH, fresh lemon has a much stronger acidic taste than preserved.
Maybe add zest and juice of one fresh lemon.

Hi! I bet capers would be great. Just adjust the amount to taste (and use their brine, too!).
