Just made coconut cream pie for the first time. The custard is not setting up.

I followed directions printed on line, question is when boiling custard for a minute, is it better to go longer or shorter on the boil, and is it a heavy boil or just starting to boil kinda thing

I'd have to take a look at the recipe but with most custards, you don't want to boil them, just heat them enough until they begin thickening. I like to pull the pan on and off the heat as I go so that I don't curdle the custard. Hope this helps!
