When a recipe says "small skillet" what size do they mean?

I need to update my cookware and many of my recipes say "small skillet." But an 8" skillet looks really tiny and not very useful. (I use all clad almost exclusively).

I already have the 10 and 12" inch all clad skillets as well.

You can probably get away with using your 10" one for a recipe that calls for a small skillet (usually 6 to 8").
That said, I've found snal one very useful (breakfast, warming spices, sauteeing small amount of ingredients to add to a dish or use as garnish).
