I don’t have honey or maple syrup? What’s my next choice?

What do you use if you don’t have honey or maple syrup in a chicken dish?
For a sweet and savoury dish.

depending on the recipe: Agave syrup. Or, plum, apricot or sour-cherry jam (would benefit from a bit of sharp "contrast" flavor provided by either shallots, scallions, onions some dry powdered mustard). Dates or date syrup.

Yes to date syrup.
That also made me think of pomegranate syrup (also called pomegranate molasses).

Other sweeteners on hand...sugar, agave syrup, golden syrup (British).
In a pinch, you could use jam or fruit, especially dried fruit, which will have more concentrated sweetness.
