6 cups of water to 1 lb of pasta? Isn't that going to leave me with a very thin watery 'soup'?

I like to serve this dish while it's still brothy, which is where the extra water comes in because, between the pasta and the beans, most of the liquid is absorbed during cooking. as the pasta sits, and especially if there are leftovers, the liquid is further absorbed.
