Henry Emile bread loaf pan for Beginner baker

Hello, I’m a beginner baker and have made Rachel khoo’s “French picnic bread” ( much easier than the French name) several time. I’m curious how the Emile Henry bread pan with holes in bottom works! Is there a base? Why wouldn’t the dough fall through? 💁‍♀️🤷‍♀️
