My eggs exploded when added to the water

Did anyone else’s eggs explode when placed into the boiling water? What did I do wrong?

If the eggs were cold (straight from the fridge) and put into boiling water, they will explode. It's the reverse of taking a hot glass pan out of the oven and placing it on a cold surface. The shock of a sudden and extreme temperature shift will cause the glass to shatter. You will want to have eggs at room temp. You also don't want a rolling boil. Lower the heat a little and then add the eggs carefully.
