is the batter supposed to be very thin?

I went ahead and threw it in the oven, but I haven't made a reverse-creamed cake where the batter was so thin! I fear something went wrong...or is that the correct texture?

When I compare this cake recipe to that for (sweet) cornbread, this has higher ratio of liquids (milk, oil, eggs) to grains (flour & cornmeal). And so would be thinner.
If you want to make the cake again, maybe use (standard or sweet) cornbread and add frosting.
