Would Tumeric be a decent substitute for mustard powder?

I tried to find some mustard powder at the store but haven't had any luck yet-- can i make it with tumeric/ omitting the mustard powder, or should I save this recipe for another day?

Turmeric would also change the flavor. I wouldn't do it for that reason alone.

I like Nancy's idea to add a dab of prepared mustard. I've done that before with other recipes, where it's worked well. ;o)

Turmeric will mimic the color but it does not have the emulsifying properties of powdered mustard. That is a major reason why mustard powder is used for the dressing: to homogenize the oil and water/vinegar.

Your call.

Agree.
In a pinch (lacking powdered mustard), I have used a small amount of prepared mustard and that works.
