Would this work as well if I scooped the dough into balls, chilled them, then flattened them slightly on the cookie sheet before baking?

I’ve made these a couple of times, and I find the recipe to be really tricky, so I probably wouldn’t. That said, it’s cookies! No reason not to try. You can always crumble them into ice cream if they don’t work out.

Dorie Greenspan has more tips for making these, which she outlines in this blog post. https://doriegreenspan.com/recipe/world-peace-cookies-the-newest-version-from-dories-cookies-sneak-peek/

Or, just test two or three . . . . if it doesn't work, then make the rest of the dough as instructed. For a cookie like this (I have not made this particular recipe), I'd let them sit on the cookie sheet for a few minutes before removing them - especially if using the flattened ball method you're thinking about. I'd take special care not to over bake them, as they will continue to bake while on the cookie sheet.

If you try it, please let us know how they turn out! ;o)
