It’s passed fresh corn season so this seems like the best alternative.

I actually make this recipe quite often, in the summer with fresh corn. I concur that using frozen is not a good substitute. This time of year I’d look for a traditional polenta with winter ingredients, maybe topped with roasted mushrooms or winter squash or both, perhaps topped with crispy sage leaves?
Dang now I kind of need to make that!

Replacing the fresh corn with frozen stuff isn't a 1-for-1 substitution.

This recipe *SCREAMS* of late summer (August here in most of the Northern Hemisphere). Along with the corn, the other two primary vegetable ingredients are eggplant and tomato.

None of these are in season in December. This recipe is clearly about highlighting the bounty of certain summer crops.

Sure, you can use frozen/processed alternatives and get something edible. Is that good enough for your table and your guests?

The recipe calls for fresh corn. I haven't made it, but I imagine it's best when fresh corn is in season. Maybe someone here has tried it with frozen corn and can advise you about that.
